DESCRIPTION:

The key to building a helpful healthy working relationship with clinical supervisees is to support the development of a co-vision for clinical supervision. It begins with the two of you deciding upon a place to meet that supports safety, openness, and an invitation to learn and grow. Secondly, is supporting the supervisee to identify and enhance their current skills by developing a plan for expanding those skills through continuing education. Thirdly, it is important to support supervisees to develop areas of interest and expertise with a plan to actualize those dreams. Fourthly, supporting the supervisee to develop a session structure of co-vision to explore strengths and struggles with their existing clients. A co-vision between supervisor and supervisee enhances the quality of counseling as well as more positive client outcomes. Participants will also develop skills in supporting supervisees with closure as client’s complete their counseling, utilizing screening tools such as the Columbia Suicide Rating Scale (CSSRS), coping with client death, client relapse, and screening for trauma. Ethics is blended with the approach of developing a co-vision and the ethics of using effective clinical supervision through education of effective screening and treatment methods.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Define, explore, and discuss the philosophy of developing a co-vision with supervisees that will lead to both better outcomes for the counselor and the client.

2. Develop a specific plan for incorporating the development of a co-vision plan with supervisees.

3. Develop skills in utilizing the CSRSS, effectively screening for trauma, helping supervisees cope with client death and loss, as well as relapse.
